I think that one child policy is a good development for China. Despite they implement this law by constrain, it will prevent the country from being over populated.

Yes, because the population is growing and there are a lot of people in a small amount of land. 50% of the worlds population is in China and 32% of the worlds land is China.

it was one of those things that was good in theory. government acknowledged a problem that had the potential to have drastically negative effects on their economy and overal lives of their citizens. they enacted the one child policy in an attempt to control what was quickly becoming an out of control population boom in china. the problem is that in chinese cultures male children are what is desired because a male child stays in the household and takes care of his elders but girls are married off to go live with their husbands. one child leaves the adults to fend for themselves in their old age. the population in relation to gender is becoming so skewed that china now doesn't know who is going to marry all their young men. some poorer families are also turning to selling their daughters because girls are much rarer and they are seeing the opportunity to capitalize on this. so no, i would say the one child policy overall has had an even more negative effect on China.

at about one third of the world's population with not enough tade to feed their hungry mouths, yes, unfortunately, one child is a good idea.
however, it is terrible that most chinese believe that only a male child is viable, to help them in their elderly years, via taking over the work that the father does now. and so, many daughter infants are drowned and killed in other ways.
well, what are we going to see happen in 20 years in china? will chinese men be looking at mail order bride catalogs?

I agree, the world is becoming way to populated, and just getting worse. It seems a bit harsh to tell people how large their family can be, but you have to be able to look into the future, responsibly, and make sound decisions for future generations.

I don't like the idea of the government regulating how many babies someone can have. it seems awfully harsh for the government to regulate one's private relations in this manner, but here in the US we are also embracing greater government regulation of reproduction, thanks those esteemed experts on human sexuality, Alito, Scalia, Thomas and Roberts. So, soon we will catch up with China in this respect.
