my motherboard supports pc533 ddr2 memory. I'd like to buy pc800 ddr2 memory since I will buy a new motherboard in the next months.

is it possible to clock the pc800 memory down to pc533 to use it with my current motherboard?

Yes, your computer will automatically do this. If you install the both PC800 and PC533 on the same computer, all the memory will run at the speed of the slowest RAM installed(pc533).

If your RAM is rated faster then your FDB speed rating, it will run at the FSB rated speed, not the rated RAM speed.

Its rare that a new computer will use the same type of RAM as the older computer.

If the ddr2 800 has SPD data for 533mhz, it will easily run at the right timings at 533mhz. Otherwise, it will still run but w/ BIOS assuming timings that may not be optimum.
