I think you mean "Oriental". As someone pointed out, it literally means "East of" or "From the East". This is considered in most context as derogatory because if Asia is considered "East of", what is the "Center"? East of what? and who chose to make that the center?

In contemporary times, "Oriental" when used in a non-historical context, is equivalent to using the term "Colored" when refering to African-Americans; you just wouldn't do it.

Means "from the East", literally. It's used to describe food, art and various other aspects of Asian culture, but not people. Referring to people as "Oriental" can be interpreted as an insult and is normally used by people who have no problem insulting different cultures.
