yes, I do, because some people pretends and u gotta make them think that u feel sorry. Because if u don`t, all the people wll think that u are ,,the bad one", evan if it`s false.
i say sorry artificial to a stranger, too. If i hit someone on the street with no bad intention because I hurried up, I say sorry to be polite.

have you ever been spoken to with the other person unwilling to accept any explanation ... and you don't know what else to say ? ... so you say "I'm sorry" .. and maybe at some level you mean it, tho with the 'optic' which says [in an inner mental 'sotto voce']

"I'm sorry ((but I don't really know what to say to make you feel any better ... and I know you're not happy, but again, I don't know what else to do ))"

so, I would say both "yes" and "no" ... and after a bit of reflection

.... "I'm sorry"

Yeah, sometimes I have opinions that others don't like and it makes them mad so I say I am sorry for making them mad which I am sorry for making them mad but not sorry for what I said cause I feel what I've said is right. I hope that made sense. LOL.

I say it to be amiable or to defer to an authority who insists on being correct but it is just the ebb and flow of relationships and has almost nothing to do with genuine apology.

All the time. I'm pretty apologetic. I do that alot when someone expresses discontent around me. Also when someone is going on about being mad at me and I just wanna shut them up. So i apologize.
