I just let them put whatever they have in when I get my oil changed. But today I got Penzzoil (sp) High-mileage and my car has 107 thousand miles. Does the type of oil you get really make a difference? Did I make a right choice in getting this oil? I rather ask you guys than try and get scammed out of my money "ohh thats best thats what u need yes.. it costs alot more but go get it you wont regret it"

Use what it says to use in the owner's manual that came with your car. Chances are, it'll say to use a specific grade--say, 5W-30--of any motor oil that bears the seal of the American Petroleum Institute, or API. And that's all you need, whether it says Wolf's Head, Pennzoil, or K-mart. Wal-mart's store brand is perfectly good. Change it when the book says to change it, and you'll be fine.

The high-mileage oil sold by Pennzoil is probably a bit heavier in consistency, but unless you're tending to burn oil between changes you don't need it.

The prices shouldn't be all that different. Go to the local Wal-mart or Auto Zone and compare prices on the shelf.

As to the weight of the oil check the owners manual and double check with the dealer's service department to see if your region's climate calls for any changes to the manufacturers specs. 107,000 is not a lot of miles if the vehicle was properly maintained. In my opinion "high mileage" oils are a rip off unless you are burning oil or do not change it on schedule. So if you are up on the care on your vehicle and it has no underlying problems then go with the normal recommended oil and keep up the upkeep. Take care.

Any name brand oil is OK to use. Just having the oil changed every 3000mi.or 3mo. means more than the brand of oil. Its OK to use an oil specific for high-mileage engines. They are designed to better suit the needs of your engine. If cost is a factor don't feel bad about not using high-mileage specific oil just keep to a regular maintenance schedule.

I use synthetic oil. It's more expensive, but goes a long ways. I only change the oil every 5 thousand miles, instead of 3. But keep checking your oil levels. the synthetic oils are more slippery and I think better.

It may not hurt or help anything, but you can give it a try and see if your car runs better, and leaks less oil. If the answer it yes, then continue to use it. If you can't tell any difference then go back with the regular stuff. good luck.

You be the judge.

Yep, stick with the same oil. Probably a 10W30 or 10W40, as a lighter oil might go thru your engine faster. Stick with traditional oils instead of synthetics.

you can find a full - cheap synthetic on amazon. get a quality filter like wix, car quest, napa , mahle, denso and you can go according to your manual. get the oil and filter and bring it to a shop or dealer and it will cost you less.. They will also check your car out for other issues as well.

If you use that oil once its best to use it all the time, high milage engines need to stick with one brand all the time.
