Going from the least to most complicated:

1. Plug in the speakers, to both the comp and the wall. (Both happened to me before)
2. Turn up the volume on the speakers themselves, or in the Taskbar Volume Control.
3. Update your sound card drivers from your manufacturer.
4. Make sure the sound card is seated properly in the computer. (You must open the computer to do this. BE CAREFUL!)
5. Replace the sound card.

I know there has to be other ways.

1. Speaker is unplugged
2. Sound is turned down
3. You don't have enough memory to listen to the video that's playing
4. Something else is trying to play instead of the sound you want

go to control panel and click sounds speech and audio devices, click adjust volume and make sure every thing id right and not muted.....I did that this morning and realized my sound was turned down.....When I turned the volume up it said it was all the way up so I had to go the menu on my monito and turn it up that way...If neither of those woek try restoring your computer to the day before...and make sure your cord is all the way in that runs from your monitor to the tower.

This also happened to me before. Go to "start" and then go to "Control Panel" then go "sounds and devices" and then you will see a sound thing. If you can go to that then slide the sound to high. If it doesn't allow you to do that then check around that section until you can get it working :)

Maybe your speaker is unplugged to your computer.
Happened to me twice.

your speakers are either unplugged from the computer, or their power source (which is not always the computer)
