I am pissed.. my car was FINE... doing good until I get my oil changed at jiffy lube by some guys that were too worried bout getting my name/number than fixing my damn car. And I drove 6 hours today after that.. and the first hour my engine light starts blinking and while im driving 75 i can feel my engine feel like its trying to stall or something, but I made my trip wit no trouble at all. And when I get back tonight... i cut on the car again and it had trouble starting up.. sounded like it didnt want to start up.. I am pissed I cant wait to go over there tomorrow and have a fit. Anybody know what might be wrong with it?? No, it aint my battery. I already ahve anew one that I bought 2 years ago. This is dumb.. help?? I've heard of incidents where mechanics FORGET to do somethnig.. like put in new oil after they take it out, or not tighten a scew. Whats wrong wit my car!!!!?????

If they didn't add oil, or left your filter loose, or didn't tighten the drain plug, then you would have no oil pressure and the check engine light would be on.

MAF stands for Mass Air Flow. It could be that it was accidentally knocked loose while they were flirting with you. Evidently you have already checked out the error codes on the car, or why would you ask about the MAF sensor. Take it back ot them and let them hook it back up. good luck

I read the other answers. Your Mass Airflow Sensor(MAF sensor) is where the air goes in your engine. It measures the amount of air so your computer knows how much gas to feed the engine. If the big hose that hooks it to the engine is loose, it will not read right and will run bad. This should set a code in the computer and make the Check Engine or Service Engine Soon light come on and/or flash. Also there is another device that tests the temperature of the air coming in. It is usually hooked into the big hose I mentioned or the air cleaner box itself. Sometimes it is necessary to unplug it to get the air filter out. Either of these things could be causing your problem. A simple visual inspection of these things could be done by most folks. The loose wires to either would be fairly obvious. If the big hose is loose you will hear a big sucking noise when the engine is running. If you do, go back and make them put it back together right and pop them for a free service. They'll learn something and you won't have to pay to get it fixed. Also make them clear out the trouble codes in your computer. If they don't have that ability, make them pay for someone else to do it. It's their fault. Of course check the oil level in your car and check on the ground for leaks. However, if they left your oil plug out or didn't fill it back up with oil, your motor would have made a big banging noise and locked up in about 5 minutes. It would not have run 6 hours as you said. It's probably just the dumb, amateur stuff I mentioned before. A guy on the job less than six months should know better. Good luck.

Have you popped your bonnet and checked the levels of the fluids yourself? (Oil, Power Steering, etc). If you have the manual that came with your car it will detail how to do these checks. Otherwise you're looking for the dipstick for the oil, which is most likely on the left hand side of the engine, and should have a yellow handle. Have an old rag or something handy. Remove the dipstick and wipe it once then re-insert, remove and check the level. It should be between the minimum and maximum marks, and ideally you should check after the car has been driven, so that the oil will be at operating temperature (and will give a true level reading). Make sure you don't leave the rag in the engine bay (I have seen people do this, and the results are not pretty).

Everything the owner can check will be in yellow.

Make absolutely sure you check the oil level before driving it again. Do you have a mate who knows a little about cars and can take a look for you?

Well you should start with (and you should've done this about an hour into your trip when things seemed to be going bad) CHECKING YOUR OIL. If it's empty, then stop driving it immediately although the damage has already probably done if this is the case. If so, have ol' Jiffy Lube figure out what they are going to do to help you, and demand that they do so. If it's full, then you either have a seperate issue or something may have been done wrong with the oil change, not that there's a whole lot to mess up there. Without seeing the car this isn't so easy to figure out, but start by checking your oil level. Good luck and get back to us about the oil level.

I think that's the longest sentence I've ever seen. I think what you are saying is that you didn't disclose a potential problem with the car you sold. If that's the case, then remember, a used car isn't brand new. They can and a lot of times do have problems. Most people expect that. That's why they are not paying full price for a new car. When people get upset is when you lie about a problem. This gets into misrepresentation and the like. Too much to get into here. For the sake of your next car...dipsticks don't "break". They are simply a measuring device. As long as you have the proper dipstick for your car, if you add 1.5qt. of oil, and it still doesn't register, add more. Most Honda oil pans hold around 4 qt.

Typically, an oil change is a rather simple procedure. You drain the oil out (1-3 screws and thats done) and replace the filter (another 4 screws). I never bother doing this myself on cars because it's so cheap from places like Jiffy. But you just don't know what sort of odd screw up some $8/hour HS kid will make sometimes.

There is a slight chance they might of used an oil filter that was somehow not compatible but the problems your describing sound much more like a fuel delivery problem.

Make it a point to throw a fit and blame them though ;)

Well .. first off stop and check the oil.. See if you have any. Thye could have forgotten to tighten the drain plug and your oil has leaked out.

If you have oil, then I go with the first guy's suggestion. Take it back and ask to see the manager or owner. If they can not solve the problem tell them you are going to take it to a mechanic and, depending upon his report hold them accountable for both his time, your time and any damages.

That should rattle a cage or two...

Ok.. NOW can I have your phone number .. (grin).

I would take it to another mechanic first before going back to Jiffy Lube and find out what the problem is.. don't discuss what happened with Jiffy Lube... don't have the mechanic fix it, just get an estimate.. then go back to Jiffy Lube and ask them to check it and see what's wrong with it.. compare your answers.. and now you have ammo!

Take it back and ask them to see if they did something,if that dont work go to a auto zone or checker and see if they can run a OBD2 test on it and it will show why the light came on and find the problem..Make sure you check oil also and make sure the cap is on..
