Why are so many of the girls on the show "America's Next Top Model" so skinny? I understand that models are thin, but some of these girls look almost skeletal. I have seen a few beautiful plus size models but they never win the show. Does this show give girls low self esteem or cause eating disorders?

As a plus size girl myself, when I watch that show I do feel like the only way to suceed in that show is to be thin. I mean the plus size girls and come on let's face it even the plus size girls really aren't that big, they just aren't bean poles like the majority of them, that and they actually have breasts. Tyra claims to be all about women having curves and being beautiful and yeah sometimes she stands up to one of the other judges when they say something rude about a plus size girl but for the most part but she never really seems to fight for the bigger women. Some of those judges make comments that aren't even relevent to the modeling ability but the actual size of the model. It doesn't matter if she's gorgeous or she has a good runway walk. To them they have to be thin. The same goes for the designers. I mean one plus size girl, I can't remember her name went to a gosee and the designer didn't even hardly have anything to fit her infact he rudely said as much. Then a photographer was so rude to the same girl that he literally said well, I did what I could but you just don't take a good beauty shot which was ridiculous, her photo was gorgeous. It was a shoot where they were posing with a tarantula while trying to sell diamonds. I truly believe that had this particular girl been thin they would have been gushing over her photo but because she wasn't it was just alot of negative feedback. I do like watching the show because it's interesting to watch the photo shoots and then be able to see how the pictures turned out but they have a lot of changing to do. A REAL womans body has curves, maybe one day the modeling industry will see that.

i know!
honestly, i was thinking the same thing, especially for this season. I mean, have you seen Jaslene? it's borderline disgusting. She's too thin, and i think that if she actually won ANTM, i would stop watching the show. I understand she's a fierce model and everything, but at the same time, they need to realize that lots of young girls watch this show. So yeah, you need a great model, but can't she be average or normal size instead of creepy and stick-like?

Caridee or Eva. they were the only ones who were really good from beginning to end. Danielle did a good job but I don't see her getting as much work as the other 2. Saleasha was a joke and didn't deserve her win so she definetly can not compete with the other winners or the other girls in the competetion because if they did it all over she definetly wouldn't have won.

NO!!!!! Tyra totally supports plus sized models, in fact, she was very enthusiastic when she was able to put two plus sized models in this season. you obviously haven't been watching this show very long because a few seasons back, a girl was rejected because she was too thin, and tyra didn't want to promote anorexia/bulemia. tyra is totally pro- love your body the way it is.

I think so... many models are pressured to be thin, no doubt! You barely see a plus size model anywhere.

some of the girls are overly skinny but I think it's just a model stereotype that girls don't eat...they do eat but we just don't see it...

That's my favorite show. ^_^
I don't think it promotes anorexia or bulimia.
Tyra is pro-eating herself.
