Can an ideology be beaten by Washington?

Is there any force in the world that can change your view of freedom?

Is there any force in the world that could make you change your religious beliefs?

Is there any force in the world that can make you change your fundamental beliefs that you hold dear?

Let's put it another way. Do you think Washington could win a war against Christianity?

No?

Then why do people think military force can win the war against religious extremist? These people believe just as stongly (if not stronger) in their religion and morals as we believe in ours.

You can't fight that with guns and bombs. THEY ALREADY WANT TO BLOW THEMSELVES UP! Do you think thousands of troops, bombs, tanks and helicopters are going to change this? It just gives them more targets! They don't care if they live or die, they only want to take as many "infidels" as they can with them when they do die.

We are feeding the fire. We are doing EXACTLY what they want. They want to keep the Iraqi people so distracted with our presence and sectarian fighting that they can't/won't stand up against them.

The Soviet Army couldn't defeat their ideology in Afghanistan in the '80s. Only ego and pride would make anyone think we can do better.

Of course not! An ideology can only be "beaten" if it is proved to be wrong--and even then, some will continue to believe it!! (Some people still believe the world is flat, that dinosaurs never existed, and that Dubya is a good man! Go figure.....)

Washington is where we put people that won't fit into lunatic asylums or over-crowded prisons.

It keeps them out of the way of the people who actually do the work of the nation.
