I am from UK and TV progs are not advertised in that way.

9:00 Eastern standard time, 8:00 Central time. There are several time zones across the US, each being an hour earlier as you go west. The time designation means that the programs are broadcast at the same time, so people see them at different times depending on which time zone they are in.

It means that a program is shown at 9:00 on the east coast of the US, and shown simultaneously at 8:00 in the Central time zone, which is one hour later than the Eastern time zone.
Is the UK in a single time zone? If so, that would explain why there is no need to list tv programs that way in the Radio Times.

It means that the programme will be shown at 9:00 am/pm in New York which is Atlantic or eastern time which is 8:00 am/pm in the middle of America which is central time

It is used by US television networks. It means the program comes on at 9 pm, unless you live in the Central time zone, in which case the program airs at 8 pm.

9/8 Central means, 9 PM at your local time (people are saying Eastern standard time, but I live in the pacific time zone and it works the same way), except when you live in the Central Standard Time zone, where it will come on at 8 PM local.

9/8 central is the time zone that a show will be on in the US. So, it'd be 9 o'clock eastern and 8 o'clock Central. So, it has nothing to do with the UK, you better just check you're local listings.

it means that if you live on the east coast it starts at 9 and for those of us who live in the central part of the country it starts at 8. But you have to follow the time zones according to your geographic locations.
