Currently, the average price for unleaded is 94.8 pence per liter. That converts to 3.60 pounds per gallon.
At the current exchange rate of 1.993 US dollars to the pound (or .501755 pounds to the dollar), one gallon of gasoline costs $7.17.
Please note that this is the worst exchange rate ever, as far as I know (when I lived in England in the 1980's, the rate went from $1.50 to the pound to a low of $1.05 to the pound). Parity is about $1.50 to the pound. That is, for example, at $1.50 to the pound, a movie ticket in London would cost about the same as a movie ticket in New York City.
