I have gone on at least a half dozen vacations by myself to St. Thomas. You are going to enjoy it sooooo much.
Where are you staying? I stayed at Bluebeard's Castle because a friend of mine was kind enough to give me her time share. There are two great restaurants there and the bar is usually jumping.
It really doesn't matter if you stay in a really nice place like the Ritz or a smaller B&B. Night time in the downtown can get dicey so watch your behind and your wallet.
If you are going to drink at night, find a place either where you are staying or close by.
During the day there are so many places to go and things to do. One person already mentioned Magens Bay -- it's beautiful.
Don't forget to take the Ferry to St. John for the day. You are out on the water breathing the clean air. It's wonderful. When you get there, you will see a bunch of cabs lined up. For a small fee, they will take you around the island and you can see the most gorgeous beaches and views of your life. I always like to be dropped off at Caneel Bay where I have lunch by the beach. they also have a great gift shop there.
There's wonderful shopping, eating, drinking and meeting in the downtown. I like Mongoose Junction where there's a wide variety of shops, art galleries, restaurants, etc.
If you have the time and budget, it's also fun to take a seaplane to St. Croix for the day. It's my island of choice because the people are much more laid back.
When you are back in St. Thomas, don't forget to go people watching at the market place where street vendors set up shop every day. It drives the government nuts because they don't like the aesthetics, but it is so much fun to walk through and pick up a gift or two.
Of course, there is really great shopping, too. Over the years I found I liked the jewelry, liquor and sunglass deals I could get at A.H. Riise. (pronounced reez)
Sunset is best at Bluebeard's because there is a remarkable view of the cruise boats, especially if there are more than four or five there. The lights on the boats go on and one by one they leave the harbor. It is just so peaceful.
Well, have fun. I'll be there in spirit with you. Enjoy.

If you're alone it can still be a lot of fun. All you have to do is travel the islands and find the popular bars. don't stay in ST thomas. Go to the BVI and find the willy t, foxys and all the other good places. You'll find a much better time there whether your alone or not. Trust me i used to live there.

I just went on a cruise to these two places, both beautiful. In St Thomas we went to Sapphire Beach. Beautiful beach, wasn't too crowded. It had a shower and washrooms and a small store with food. Not a huge beach, but I really enjoyed it. There is also Magens bay, its more popular and usually if it decides to rain it hits Magens, not Sapphire. The tour guide told us Magens bay is more popular but can get very crowded. There was also really good snorkeling by the two reefs on either side of the beach. One of my family members saw a turtle! Go to Sapphire, its beautiful. Just grab a taxi! In St Thomas what we did was take a taxi/ tour ride. It was about $20-25 per person and a guy took us around and told us about the different things on the island then he dropped us at the beach of our choice and he picked us up 2 hours later and took us back! In St Maarten I went to Orient Beach, located on the French side. Opposite end from Cruise dock. It was not crowded in the morning but the afternoon was much more crowded. It was a really nice beach, but it was crowded. What you could do is go straight to the beach in the morning and then leave once it starts to get busy. Hope this somewhat helped, enjoy the two places they are so beautiful!

It is so beautiful and romantic there as soon as you hit Magens Bay you'll start kissing the first babe in site and fall on the white sandy beach with a smile on your face.
