I think I have about a 55 gallon tank. I want to create a lake or a river tank. I want to have fish in there from canals or lakes. Right now I have some oscar and blue gill in there.

What else do you think I should get?

I think you shouldn't add anything else to the tank and be ready to thin it out very soon. A 55 gallon make a good home for a single adult Oscar. More than that is overcrowded and will lead to serious problems in the fairly near future.

Well to find your tanks volume take, L x W x H. Then divide by 231. I don't think you should get any more fish, 1 Oscar is hard enough. Mine completely destroys my 55 gallon tank within a week because he poops a lot.
