I am wondering what title the children of a hereditary noble (such as a duke, earl, count, etc.) possess. I know that the children of Prince Charles of Wales also have the title of Prince of Wales (without being "the" Prince of Wales), but how is it for dukes and counts and other nobles who are not royalty? It seems hard to believe that they have no title.

BE is not entirely accurate. The sons of barons, viscounts and earls are called 'The Honourable'. The daughters of barons and viscounts are called 'The Hon.' while the daughters of dukes, marquesses and earls are called 'Lady X Y'. The sons of dukes and marquesses are called 'Lord X Y'.

But not all dukes' eldest sons are called marquess (the Duke of Somerset's heir is just Lord Seymour), not all marquesses' sons are earls (the Marquess of Salisbury's heir is Viscount Cranborne), etc., and some have no 'courtesy title' at all. In Scotland the system can be slightly different; the heir to the Countess of Mar is called the Mistress (or Master) of Mar.

And it is certainly wrong to call all peers or their heirs 'Rt. Hon' - this title today is reserved for current and former government ministers.

In Europe it is different - they are more generous with titles for children.

Many of them are styled 'Honourable'. Depending on the actual title held, some automatically have a title of some kind.

This site has some easy to understand explanations of how it works:
