Define "smarter", please. Know a lot of well-educated people who lack good common sense, and "true wisdom of the heart" isn't a matter of spitting out facts and figures.

However, FWIW, I've found that a lot of people who read a lot, especially nonfiction, have reported that it sure made schooling a lot easier. They also tend to have wide ranges of information on a LOT of different topics, and are interesting folks with whom to chat.

Every book lover I know has a stash of books and magazines in the bathroom----use the time while you're bathing or whatever; sure beats looking at the wallpaper. And ***none*** of them can look up just ONE item in an enyclopedia---they get distracted on the way, and stop and browse and read and read. Great habit to develop; lots of fun, really.

And while you're at it, KILL YOUR TELEVISION! Now. Then make friends with the librarians---they're the Secret Masters of The Universe, because they control information.

Have fun, and see you in the bookstacks!

To me, smart is the ability to learn things. For some it is easy (smarter) for others it is more difficult (less smart). You really cannot do much about that. You can still gain knowledge by learning all you can. But knowledge alone is not enough. What we really need to aspire to is wisdom. Wisdom is knowledge and experience.

Thing about it. You can read all about how to rebuild an engine. You can watch someone else rebuild an engine or you can actually participate in rebuilding an engine. Only after you have actually done it can you claim wisdom.

Read. Take classes. Read. Watch educational TV. Read. Challenge yourself to learn something new every day. Read.

It doesn't matter WHAT you read, just read.

Good luck!
