Like you had to go inside to get your good. You could get it to like always, but there wasn't a drive-thru window for people to sit in their cars and order.

The answer is undoubtedly yes.
I managed a McDonald's for four years. Our drive-thru sales accounted for 75% of our total sales, and that number generally ranges anywhere from 60-85%. When you look at the numbers, quite a small percentage of people actally come inside.
When the drive-thru was closed for two weeks at my store (we were remodeling that side of the building, there was no lane and no way to get to the windows), we lost most of our sales and several of our employees were out of work for that entire time as their labor was not necessary.
My answer is yes, definitely. It's for conveinence, and if people can't get it in the form of food right in their car, they will go somewhere else.

I work at Burger King in Maryland and I always work in the Drive Thru, and if we got rid of it other then the fact I would have no job i would except to see a drop in sales. Over half the daily sales at our store are from the Drive Thru. The sad thing is people don't just go threw the drive thru for a soda on the way home from work, people order 30,40 and even 50 dollars of food in the drive thru. So what I am getting at if we had no drive thru there would be fewer people eating at fast food.

Definitly, I work at McDonalds and people will come through the drive thru for orders with $50+ dollars worth of food. The drive-thru is ALWAYS busy, even when the lobby is dead. If you're gonna eat the food, at least burn off a couple calories and walk in!

I think some people would eat less.
The average McDonald's Drive-thru serves 60-75% of overall
sales per location. Obviously people love the convenience.
Prior to the introduction of the DT people used Drive-ins.
You would park in designated areas and someone would come out to your car and take your order. Ever been to an A&W? The modern day DT developed from those. Convienence and speed the driving force.
If you were thinking people would eat less etc.................
The key is to make healthy choices in the time you have for any meal, home or away..............most people's lives keep getting busier and busier, making any DT's speed and convienence factor a driving force!!!!!

Probably not. But I have always said that drive-thru windows should be banned. They are bad for the environment(a typical car will put out more harmful exhaust out at an idle than while driving), and people need more exercise. If you are too lazy to walk your fat behind inside to get your food, then maybe you shouldn't be eating? Just my opinion

I would certainly stop patronizing them if they took out the drive-thru. Riding herd on four young grandkids is a task and a half now, so keeping them under control in a line while they whined for everything on the menu is not my idea of a good time. And since I'm taking them there as a treat, I want to have fun.

Yes, I admit I'm a sucker for convenience a lot of the time. If there was a drive-thru smoothie and veggie place I'd certainly prefer it. Unfortunately it's easiest to drive my huge pickup through McDonalds.
