I have a border collie (male) about 6 years old and 2 kittens that I've had for about 6 months. They hardly interract with each other. They don't hurt each other or anything. They just don't play together. Anyway to help them out a little? I'd like us to be a family that loves each other not just tolerates each other.

Well I understand your dilemma but let me say that it could be worse.
When you bring young animals into a house with older animals they seem to either click or they dont click... yours havent clicked but they dont hate each other either.

I have a 2 yr old maltese/kelpie/shitszu and it hounds my cat to the point where my cat will not come through the back door anymore. It has to use the main door at the front of the house which is always locked and hardly used and it gets real annoying! The poor cat actually just came home after being gone 7 weeks, becoz of the dog. We also had a kitten which was killed 2 wks ago. The dog would grab it round the neck (the dog was the size of a big cat) and drag it around. It was shocking and even though kitty stayed out mostly... the dog still found it sometimes.

I dont think you can make your dog like the kittens, but you can try! The kittens are young, and if they arent afraid of the dog then they will play with the dog... its just something else to chase or play with... but the dog will need to be around them first and the dog may not be so easy to convince that playing with these little ferral things is of any benifit to him what so ever!!!

Bring your dog into the room where ur sitting and have the kittens there. Give the dog treats when it pays attention to the cats... or does something cute...(like training him to do what you want) It doesnt sound like he will hurt the cats but be careful anyway... dog could just be older and over the whole chase the cat thing.

Just encourage them to be together.. but dont push it too much.

Reward behaviour you like! and be grateful they dont kill each other!

If you put all of them in the same room for long enough, you bound to see some bonding actions between them - but remember to stay there at all times, dont leave them unattended together.

Good luck

If you raise your dog and cat from day one until today, it is very high possibility for them to like and love each other. But now you can't do anything, because your dog is older than the cat, they could hardly play together, just be thankful for your dog doesn't bite your cat.

Be glad they don't interact too much. An older Dog that's used to a way of life could be very rough with a new animal in it's house. If they grew up together as youngsters they would be buddy's. Your dog isn't interested in the cats because He can live just fine with or without them.

try no longer conceal the cats from the canines it is going to genuinely lead them to extra curious, placed the canines interior the kitchen and produce the cats into the the lounge provide them 0.5 an hour to smell round and p.c.. up the heady scent of the canines bec they're going to the kittensmay even bypass as a lot because the kitchen door and sniff on the bottom, after 0.5 an hour and once you've looked after the position they're going to be fed and the position you desire the clutter tray make positive the kittens are someplace they experience danger-free bec they're going to be terrified before each and every thing and bypass for it in basic terms enable the canines in as you're saying the canines is in basic terms no longer in contact they're going to likely have a sniff and get lost the kittens will hiss and spit yet finally interest receives the extra suitable of them and they're going to attempt to get closer and closer to the canines they could have already picked up their smell so the kittens will cool down quick enuf and after some pretend starts it is going to like they have by no skill been away they're going to be inseperable besides the indisputable fact that it truly is going to be stunning. do not difficulty or bounce or enable everyone scream or grab the kittens faraway from the pups bec all of those complicated emotions will move to the littens and lead them to extra scared than they already are, in basic terms sit down back and enable issues take position obviously, you comprehend your canines extra suitable than everyone and also you comprehend the kittens are danger-free this is the canines which will perchance get a scratched nostril before each and every thing :)

they are cats and dogs... not humans. You are lucky the dog allows them to live.

kittens are also very delicate and if you force them to play together, the dog might accidentally hurt them.

leave them alone, they are not missing out on anything by not playing with each other.
