Talk to your school's guidance counselor SOON. You will need a work permit. Remember... summer is coming and there'll be more teens looking for jobs than there'll be jobs looking for teens!!!

I wouldn't have any idea about jobs specifically in Houston, but I have a few ideas. I'm 16, too and I just got hired at a coffee shop/gift store today(whoo!). I've also appilied at grocery stores, convience stores, restaurants (as a hostess) and clothing stores (like American Eagle, Abercrombie).
The trick is to look for places you like that seem to have plenty of teens working there. Its not always true, but if a business only has adults working there, usually the boss dosen't tend to hire kids. Ask around at your favorite stores as to age restrictions, and apply everywhere! Call or visit wherever you apply a week or two later, and look professional when you do.
Good luck!

Houston is a big area with lots of opportunity. Check your classifieds in your community, big newspapers, bulleting boards, etc. Depending on what your interests are, there may be more out there than the one position you applied for.
Consider what you would like to do if someone would pay you? What is your "ideal" job? If you can't find one for summer income-why don't you start something that you'd enjoy. Pet-sit, babysit, kid-watch, summer fun kind of program for neighbor kids, etc. Help elderly in the community, run errands for folks, maybe your parents can even put you to work, maximizing their help and saving on taxes.
Best wishes for a fun summer!
