I recently bought a wireless Linksys router. I had a router before that was not wireless, working directly off of a phone line, that splits into a DSL line and a phone line. The DSL line connected into that router, and an ethernet cable from that router into the D-Link in the back of my computer.

However, when I plug the DSL cable into my new router, my phone line is cut off. I plugged the ethernet cable into the new router and the D-Link in the back of my computer. However, when I set up the router, I can't get an internet connection.

What is wrong?

It sounds like you are missing the DSL modem. The router you had before had to have a broadband modem also built into it and the wireless router you have purchased does not.

Sorry, but you need a broadband modem to use broadband internet.....

u can't just plug a dsl connection into any router, it must be compliant, usually meaning that u get it from your ISP as far as i know, those little linksy routers are pretty basic u usually just plug them in and they work, i would suspect that the router is shotty also, it happens. The line is also probably cut off because there is some type of multiplecing and modulation that DSL devices do to merge voice and data over a copper telephone line,

Check that you are connecting the correct socket of the router to the line. Use the cable that came with it, not the one from the older router, which may not be standard. Always use a filter in the socket of the router and any phone connection. It sounds to me as if you may be connecting a LAN socket to the line, as 10/100 Lan ports now short circuit the phone pair. Has your router got a phone port? It may be a model designed to connect to a separate modem, not the line.

From the sounds of your question, you aint got as clue what you are doin! The DSL modem connects to the phone line, the router wan port connects to the modem. You also need filters for every phone line connected to a phone

Try connecting with encryption off. WPA2 is sometimes not supported. You can also try WPA-PSK TKIP as an alternative if thats the case.
