i think its a shame he is no in the hall of fame. he was the dominant first basement of his generation, yet he is overlooked even though most of his teamates(boy of Summer) are in the hall of fame. he not only was a great hitting player but he could play defense and was a leader. if it wasn't for the captain Pee Wee Reese he would of been the captain.

Is? No, but that's obvious.

Should be? Sorry, but I'm going to say No. He was a very good player and contributed a lot to his teams, but first base is a big power position historically, and while Hodges could hit and slug just fine, he doesn't stand out as being truly exceptional either in his time or across the long reach of baseball history.

Look, someone has to be The Best (Eligible) Player Not In The Hall, and right now Hodges is second behind Santo for that dubious honor.

Gil Hodges is not a hall of famer even though hje was a great MEt coach and he was a good player as you said. The veterans won't vote him in even though he should be voted in.
