I am having a hard time deciding which of these musicals I would rather audition for. Both are being performed at the same time and rehearsals would conflict, so I have to choose one! Which one, in your opinion, would be a better choice, which characters should I audition for, and explain your decision, if you could. I'm at a standstill, and unfortunately, my family isn't very theatre savvy. Help! :)

Audition for both and hope you get accepted to both and then decide. You may even want to audition for both to see which offers you a more prevelant role in the production. I mean, if one offers you a role in the chorus while the other offers you a role as the second or main lead then do you really have to think about which you would prefer to do?

As for which roles, I don't know you well enough to advice. I am not a fan of TMM and I can only say whose role I would audition to play in G&D.

You know the music . . . which do you know with full confidence you can sing and make it sound amazing? Choose that role. I know it sounds simplistic but auditioning is not the time to test your vocal wings. It's the time when you need to really wow the people who will decide your fate.

Definitely audition for both; actors can always use experience auditioning. Then you can contemplate which you might like to do more.

Familiarize yourself with the shows (if you haven't already) by finding the books and reading them or renting any film versions/archival tapings you can get your hands on if seeing a production is something that helps you (don't watch them more than once or twice though; you don't want to inadvertently copy another actress's performance).

Perhaps also consider what part you're offered (if you're so fortunate as to be offered a part in both productions) and which you feel would be more interesting or challenging for you to play - keep in mind that may not necessarily be the 'best' or most prestigious role (sometimes the 'supporting' characters can be much more interesting, though usually in musicals they're all pretty 2-dimensional).

Finally, keep in mind the director you have to work with, and even the other actors. If you can't stand to work with the cast, and especially with the director, then why would you take a role in that production?

Break a leg!

I would audition for both. You never know if you will get them both! One director may not cast you! If you're more into tapping, then Millie's for you! Millie's also a better show for female parts. Overall, Guys & Dolls is a better show, but Millie is more focused on the females.

You may be offered a better part in one... you never know until the offer comes in. Go for both in the begining.

I would have to ask. What is your personality suited to. Guys and Dolls, obviously the best and most classical of the two works; Thoroughly Modern Milie, a fluff piece. Do you want to remembered for being in a tough show, with depth and character and depth of character, or something light and airy with no substance.

Good luck whichever you decide to do. I admire your ability to act.

as quickly as I auditioned for thoroughly present day Millie, my vocal coach stated that I sing "you are the precise" from something is going. This music has good factors for the two women folk and adult adult males persons, and since the teach is written interior an identical term as thoroughly present day Millie, the music is very comparable. ruin a leg on your audition and would you be forged interior the section you're auditioning for!

I personally would choose Thoroughly Modern Millie. Yes, it's fluff, but it's fun and if you're a dancer, it's mainly a dance show. There will always be more oppurtunities to do Guys and Dolls, it's a common show to do. :)
