I had two chips that were 256MB each which equaled 512MB. I added another 512MB to add up to 1024MB, and my computer goes slower opening programs and more. Downloading went faster and playing games went faster, but the gaming should be ALOT faster than it is.
Can anyone help me?
And yes, I made sure it was the right RAM.

"I added another 512MB..."

Is this a single 512 stick or 2x256. In order to get the benefits of double-data rate for DDR-SDRAM, you have to install the memory in pairs of equal sizes. You can't have 2x256 and 1x512 and run in DDR mode. It will run in single data rate mode, which is slower.

Perhaps w/ your new RAM mix, your BIOS defaulted your RAM timings to the slowest combination.

Gaming performance is a lot more dependent on the graphics card. Do not expect too much from RAM upgrade.

Opening or loading of programs is also very dependent on the hard drive. Do not expect too much from RAM. Get SATA ll w/ 16Mb cache and NCQ or a WD Raptor.

Not all applications fully utilize the wider bandwidth of dual channel memory mode. Dual channel may not always mean very fast.

'when you upgrading memory, you must have tables on manual for motherboard. Maybe you haven't motherboard for 1gb memory. If have, look tables and read data. Surly you connected bad memory in slots(i mean capacity).

It might be because your computer motherboard cannot handle that much RAM. Did you double check to see how much the it was capable of handling?
