My response to Carolyn--are you stupid? Why not let real pizza deliverers answers this question. Are you mentally dysfunctional? You have ZERO RIGHT to be an expert on this category.

The answer is this--any time you tip on credit card, the driver is always 100% aware of it, and he receives the cash for it that same night.

As a former driver, we prefer tips on credit card because people sometimes "round up" to the next dollar.

For example, on a bill of $23.68 we are more likely to get a tip of $3.32 than a tip of just $3. Especially if it is within range, or close to, a $10 increment, like $17.72 or $26.63.

Customers love to make it an even $20 or an even $30 after the tip and we drivers, appreciate the extra few cents.

All drivers check the "tip amount" as soon as you sign the receipt. We look for it almost instantly, but covertly.

THank you for being a tipper. Read my other Q/A about bad-tippers.

If you tip on the credit card slip then no you don't have to give a cash tip. Just don't be skimpy with the tip. Alot of drivers live off from their tips.

Add it to the credit card or give him a cash tip.

my son has delivered pizza and the tip was given to him from the manager if it was put on a credit card. I was at a friends and I called in an order and paid on my card and I said to add 10 dollars to the order for a tip and then I left.

When my son got home he could not wait to tell me he got a 10 dollar tip from some one. He saved 1/2 his tips for his college fund account.

We never told him who it was. To this day, once in awhile he brings the tip up. And, yes, he is a great tipper to deliveries made to his house. He always gets a big thank you and a great smile from the delivery person. (And fast delivery service too!)

if you put the tip on your credit card then you do not have to tip in cash.

You should just tip the pizza guy with cash-otherwise he/she will get the impression that you are not tipping them, but their employer. It is always nice when you have a crappy job that at least you get some cash here and there before getting your paycheck, you know?
