I fully believe that you have had an out of body experience and that you are trying to re-enter your body, and your body is fighting it off.....but of course you do get to get back in there.
Have you ever had the experience of "flying"....where you are up above everything and you know what is going on.......I think that it is just a thing that some people do.
If you do it often and it frightens you, when you go to bed at night, ask GOD not to let it happen, or pray to HIM that if it does happen, that you have a good return"..
I know there is a technical term for this, but I am not sure what it is, sorry about that
Hope this helps in some way
GOOD LUCK & GOD BLESS

When I was younger between 12-17, I used to have a reoccurring dream that I was falling down our basement steps but I never fell in a way where I'd hurt myself. In the dream I would float down the stairs. I'd have that stupid dream at least twice a week. When I got to the bottom I'd wake up but I never had the shakes or anything like that. I don't get the part about violently jumping on the bed. What makes you do that? Anyway I think most people grow out of it...

Falling dreams are another theme that is quite common in the world of dreams. Contrary to a popular myth, you will not actually die if you do not wake up before your hit the ground during a fall.

As with most common dream themes, falling is an indication of insecurities, instabilities, and anxieties. You are feeling overwhelmed and out of control in some situation in your waking life. This may reflect the way you feel in your relationship or in your work environment. You have lost your foothold and can not hang on or keep up with the hustle and bustle of daily life. When you fall, there is nothing that you can hold on to. You more or less are forced toward this downward motion without any control. This lost of control may parallel a waking situation in your life.

Falling dreams also often reflect a sense of failure or inferiority in some circumstance or situation. It may be the fear of failing in your job/school, loss of status, or failure in love. You feel shameful and lack a sense of pride. You are unable to keep up with the status quo or that you don't measure up.

According to Freudian theory, dreams of falling indicate that you are contemplating giving into a sexual urge or impulse. You maybe lacking indiscretion.

Falling dreams typically occur during the first stage of sleep. Dreams in this stage are often accompanied by muscle spasms of the arms, legs, and the whole body. These sudden contractions, also known as myclonic jerks. Sometimes when we have these falling dreams, we feel our whole body jerk or twitch and we awaken from this jerk. It is thought that this jerking action is part of an arousal mechanism that allows the sleeper to awaken and become quickly alert and responsive to possible threats in the environment.

According to biblical interpretations, dreams about falling have a negative overtone and suggest that man is acting and walking according to his own way of thinking and not those of the Lord.

That is a common "recurring" dream among people in general...(speaking from experience)
Sometimes in your dream, when you become "aware" that you're dreaming (that's called "lucid" dreaming).
That state (from sleep research) is usually a state that occurs close to the "end" of your sleep cycle, as if it's designed to "nudge" you or "jolt" you out of sleep.
Sleep cycles change with age, however, and you probably have a cycle that is being "disrupted" by a variety of unconscious factors that make it so your brain must "jolt" you out of sleep, instead of "nudging" you out of sleep...
If you're still in school...
That would explain everything...

My least favorite invention (besides weapons) is the Alarm Clock...

I have that happened to me too, and a lot more often when I was just a little girl. I heard that what it is, is that we have out of body experiences (which most of us are not aware of) and when the soul tries to enter back, our bodies sometimes tend to make that jerking movement and that's what we're feeling, or also when it's trying to leave the body.

sometimes I dream that a Giant explosion has just gone off, I mean a real "Earth Shaker", an enormous release of energy, I awake startled and screaming "LOOK OUT, Head for cover" ! my wife always says that there was no explosion, not even a "pop", it has not happened in a while, I don't miss it, when I saw the movie "T-2" and "Linda Hamilton" saw "Doomsday" coming, it kind of weirded me out, actually it frightened me a lot since this dream kept happening well before the movie came out.

Isn't it a trip?

Have you ever seen a dog kicking in his sleep, like he's lying down, yet chasing something?

We would do that too, except for chemicals that paralyze us as we sleep to prevent us from acting out our dreams. Sometimes, we begin dreaming before this chemical kicks in all the way, causing our muscles to jerk us awake.

That happens to me alot too, but not when I'm dreaming or about to wake up. It's when I'm beginning to fall asleep that it happens. Its kinda scary... I don't know why it happens either.

*I think Butterscotch... is talking about "astral projection"
