What is the best way to clean a new wood floor ( chocolate color) in order to avoid those ugly shoe marks when you walk in it? If i do not find a good remedy then I will repent of installing it!!! I clean it every day with a good wood floor cleaner but in the evening it's all dirty again.

"Shoe marks" are usually where the material from the shoe itself is being left on the floor.... this is going to sound amusing, but there are a couple of very easy options...and a cleaner...

1) Teach the family to pick up their feet, dragging the feet leaves marks.
2) Switch to shoes with 'non-marking' soles (I said these would sound funny)
3) Most marks like this can be taken up with the "Magic Eraser" by Mr.Clean.
4) An older janitorial trick, is to use an actual pencil eraser to take up the scuff marks, or, use just a dab of WD-40 on a cloth...then wipe off the spot with a little water and Dawn dish soap, to pick up the oil, finish off by a rinsing wipe, with just water. A bit more work involved with the WD-40, but it will take off the scuff marks that nothing else works on. You don't want to leave the oil on the wood finish tho, thats why you have to do the extra step of Dawn, and rinse.

I would also recommend that you look at the wood manufacturer's suggested cleaning method. If it says "damp mop" then it means just that... do NOT use a regular mop, and have puddles of water. The manufacturers will often state which cleaning products (or types) will work best on their finishes.

Have Fun

Use a good wood floor cleaner like Min wax (yellow bottle) After that you can use a coat of automotive wax (apply by hand on the floor. This will put a protective coat down that will stop the scuff marks. Be careful as it could get a little slippery.

There are a couple of things you might want to check. First change the furnace filter. You might want to consider having your ductwork cleaned. During the construction of a new house the ductwork get very dirty which might be a cause. Also check your window and door seals even on a new house there may be gaps causing dust to enter the home. If all that checks out then it may be just the nature of the beast. Hope this is helpful.
