This is really gross, but I have disgusting white thick, chunky (eww, sorry) vaginal discharge and it's consistantly itchy down there. Is this a yeast infection?
Any info would be great! Thanks :)
Oh and btw I know it's not an std because I'm a virgin.

Yes, that is a yeast infection. You can buy OTC yeast meds. The 3 day ones work better than the 1 day kind. You'll need to buy some pantiliners for while you're using the medication. The cream medicine is probably going to be easier for you to use than the vaginal suppositories. You can apply some of the cream to the outer area to stop the itching, too.

Yeast infections can happen when you've been taking antibiotics, or for a variety of reasons. They don't have a lot to do with hygiene, although wearing underpants with cotton crotches, sleeping without underwear, and not wearing tight pants or pantyhose can make you less likely to get them. If you want to prevent future yeast infections, you can eat yogurt with active cultures or take acidophilus or probiotics supplements...although, if you have to take antibiotics, you may still get a yeast infection, no matter what.

It sounds like it. I have had them and not known it. The OBGYN had to tell me when he did the pap smear, but I have had the "pleasure" of really knowing it too. Not fun at all.

Common signs and symptoms of yeast infections include:

itching and irritation in the vagina
redness, swelling, or itching of the vulva (the folds of skin outside the vagina)
a thick, white discharge that can look like cottage cheese and is usually odorless, although it might smell like bread or yeast
pain or burning when urinating or during sex
If you have any of these symptoms, see your doctor or gynecologist. It's easy to confuse the symptoms of a yeast infection with those of some STDs and other vaginal infections. Your doctor can give you the right diagnosis.

Do I Need to See a Doctor?
Treating a yeast infection is simple. But it's still important to visit your doctor for the right diagnosis, since other infections can cause similar symptoms but require different treatments. Your doctor might take a urine sample — to rule out a urinary tract infection — and some discharge from your vagina to examine under a microscope.

If you do have a yeast infection, your doctor will probably prescribe a pill to swallow or a vaginal cream or suppository. When you get home, follow all the directions on the package carefully. A suppository will come with an applicator to help you place the medicine inside your vagina, where it can begin to work.

All of these types of medication can clear up your symptoms in a couple of days and cure the infection within a week. It's important that you take the medicine for the whole time that your doctor prescribes. If you stop taking it too soon, the infection could come back.

The doctor may also prescribe a cream you can apply around the vagina to relieve itching. Some of these creams are available without a prescription in your local drugstore, but you shouldn't just buy a cream if you think you have a yeast infection. It's important to see a doctor for your diagnosis, because if you actually have another type of infection the problem could get worse if it is not properly treated. Also, over-the-counter medicine should not be used by anyone who is under 12 or pregnant.

Yeast infections can be annoying, especially if they happen regularly. To help avoid them, follow your doctor's advice, wear cotton underwear, and try to wear loose-fitting clothes. Your body will thank you.

Sure sounds like a yeast infection to me. Stop at the store and pick up some monistat(if you are young and embarrassed find a wal-mart or someplace else with a self check out line) that will help with the symptoms, itching, redness while your body balances itself out. Yeast infections could show up after antibiotics, birth control, even soap.

P.S. caffsans

Yeast infections are actually caused by an imbalance and could be triggered by absence of bacteria, yeast infections are not due to being unclean.

Hi Sunday,
Yes it certainly does to me. I live in Canada and the Dr. gave me only 1 pill to clear it up "something new I guess, but it was great to get rid of it with 1 pill. Every time I get a yeast infection, I think I've done something wrong, but the Dr. says it
is just a part of what unfortunatey Women get. I felt better after
that statement! Oh btw it won't be your last. No punt intended I
am just alot older that's all. Only in mind, not looks r feelings.
Now you are aware of what Yeast Infecitons are and will eventually learn as you go through all the different crap, we have to go through (smile) it's not so bad, I'm 50 and made it thus far, just continue to ask questions as you are, when you know something is NOT right. You're a smart girl! And have r
head on straight, unlike girls who chose the wrong path!

It sounds like it to me but it could be bacterial. You need to see a Doctor so he/she can prescribe the right medication. The sooner you get treated the better you'll feel. If it is a yeast infection, I HIGHLY recommend taking an acidophilus supplement.

Either an infection or (depending on your age) a precursor to your period. Over the counter stuff works great, if it is an infection!
