My parents have high speed cable and live about 5 miles away. How can I set up WiMax (which has a 30 mile range) to share their internet connection so I can use it also. I live in the middle of nowhere and my only option is satellite which is $600-700 for the dish and $100/month for the service.

Any info on costs involved, where to begin, etc. would be helpful.

Wimax is not for peer to peer networking, it is a long haul backbone and last mile service. You just cant go buy a couple adapters and connect over a few miles, Sorry....

Well you might be able to do this since you really aren't that far from them but the first question is what is between you. Wifi, WiMax, and nearly all other inexpensive systems are LINE OF SITE.. it the terrain between you would allow you to "see" them then a couple of wifi bridges (or wimax if you want) would let you connect. These are not the bridges you pick up at your local stores.

Visit http://tranzeo.com http://defactowireless.com or http://echotechwireless.com for an idea about antenna/radio combinations that would reach the distance.
The units will need to be placed such that they "see" each other. Now that does not mean you can actually see them just that there are no major obstructions between the two units (no hills, no high rise buildings. etc) These run between 250-600 each unit by the way.
