I'm getting ready to dig a big hole in my yard. I assume the safe this to do would be to have my underground utility lines marked, right? Who would I call to do that? Does ti cost money?

In MA you call Dig Safe (1800-digsafe) Not only is it smart it's the law. It is done for free.Whene toy call they will give you a claim # and they have 72 hours to come out and mark the area for you. If you only need a certain area marked and not your whole lot done you can make marks I<----------->I just in the area you need done ,this should be done in white spray paint only different colors denote different utilities so white only.

Most municipalities have a 1-800 DIG hot line. Every utility that has a line buried in your yard is then contacted and they have to come to your property and mark out their lines for you.

No it's free.........the number is in your phone directory...........Usually if you dial 1-800 dig rite......or 800-344-7483.........It might be different where you live but I imagine if you check it will be about the same..........It usually is done within 48 hour and it is not only safe "it's the law".
I've had to do this twice. The last
time it was to dig my pond in the back yard the guy laughed and there shouldn't be any lines.........But it had to be done.
