definitely gas, that if you have to step up on a ladder for anything you dont have to worry about that cord. weather it would be getting wrapped up in it, tripping on it or a limb falling on it and cutting it in 2 or you doing it with the saw. I'll do you one better and narrow your search for which kind to get. I use them all the time, I have 2 stihl saws. one small one i use for climbing and a big one for ground work and falling big trees. for you I would suggest a small saw, only for light work nothing real big and not to heavy but easy and safe to operate. good luck and be careful !!

Depends on what you want it for. Gas saws have more power and have no restrictions like having a power source nearby. Electric is good for small jobs around the house and not needing a separate gas can with mixed gas in it. If you're going to use it for firewood though, I would use the gas saw.

If you only need to cut things around your yard, an electric may do just fine for you. They are smaller and lighter, but you'll be tethered to the electric cord.

Gas chain saws are good for bigger jobs, but they can be a harder to operate than an electric.

Gas chain saws need to have an oil/gas mixture to run, so there will be some smoke and they can sometime be hard to start - you have to pull the cord to start them.

Electric chainsaws start up with a button.

gas has more power then a electric and you will not be limited to where you can work since you won't need to have in connected to a electric outlet

Buy a gas one; Brand to buy is Poulan; best on the market and coe in lots of sizes. every time you finish using it drain all gas out of it and than start it till it runs out of gas that is left in carburator. this will keep gas from gumming up the saw's carb the next time u want to use it.
