Are you talking about the origional warcraft or warcraft 2 or 3?

I dont know about 2 or 3 but the origional warcraft uses the IPX network protocol and not the TCP/IP protocol, so the two ethernet connections need to have the IPX service installed to play.

I dont see why the others would not work over a crossover lan.

The game would have to be installed on the two computers and then one computer would create a game, becoming the game server, and on the second computer it should ask for the IP address of the server were the game is being hosted, which would be the first computers IP address......

Without a server you can not share the game. If you use an internet server you can not both access the game as both machines will use the same public IP which blocks any second connection from that address.

you can't do that with a cross over cable that im aware, because the files need to be on your laptop for you to be able to play it though LAN
