A living will is also known as an advanced directive which is a document that allows an individual to make choices about medical treatments. It's called an advanced directive because it's signed in advance to let your doctor and those providing health care know what your wishes are regarding medical treatment . Hope this helps!

A Living Will allows you to convey your wishes regarding medical treatment when you are unable to communicate personally. Wishes regarding life support, force feeding, etc.

a living will is a document that you prepare for the unfortunate event that you should become incapacitated and cannot make your wishes known...uh...a document that says that you want the doctors to "pull the plug" if you are in a vegatative state...it can be as complete or vague as you wish...the most extreme even prevent doctors from administering water/fluids...basically allowing you to die naturally, as quickly as possible
if you have one, it should be updated every few years to avoid "interpretation" differences...should its weight ever have to be measured in the courts

Its for just incase you slip into a coma, become brain dead etc...you decide if you want to be on life support indefinately, for five years, never.
Saves a lot of grief and legal battles
