my fish are really sick looking. the one has a really bad what looks like a bacterial infection in it's tail and is really skiddish and acts like it is hurting him--when he swims by the bubble maker thing.

the other ones have red infection things at the base of all their fins and their fins are all scraggly and gross.

the newest fish, a few weeks ago addition, is the healthiest looking but i think it may have brought the illness

they all hide below the bridge and i don't want them to die because i ve had them for about a year and 1/2

the vet said to treat the water with salt (whole process) but does anyone know what they might have (fin rot is a possibility) and if there is anything else i can do?

Fin rot is a distinct possibility. In fact, that's exactly what it sounds like to me. Fin rot is caused by a bacterial infection so an antibiotic treatment would be in order. I would suggest Maracyn 2 or Maracyn TC as good treatments for fin rot. Just treat as the package directs and they will probably recover completely.

It seems that you have fin rot brought on by bacterial infection (if it was fungal, the tails would have whitish edge. Please see information below.

There's a picture there as well so you can compare it to what your fish show. If it's reddish at the base though, it may be too late to help. Once the tail is gone and the red starts to show through, it's usually septicemia and fatal (blood poisoning).

Maybe you need to check the PH in the rate. It's possible that your PH rate is either too high or too low(needs to be at 7). You can get PH powder at Petsmart. All you do is add one scoop and then it fixes the water. If you haven't cleaned the tank lately I would suggest cleaning it. If possible I would separate the fish and give them time to be alone(stress free). But doing so you would have to risk the possibility that they would become stressed because they have been taken away from their fish friends. (I had one fish that you could never have just one but they had to be kept in pairs.)
I really hope you can get your fish healthy again. I'm really sorry that you're having problems with your fish. I wish you the best of luck. Maybe you could ask the guy in the fish section of your petstore. Hope it helps.

Thats very sad but I remember how my betta died. Now sometimes that depends on what kind of fish you have. I do a lot of research on animals so I know a lot. But just to be on the safe side take out your new fish so at least you could cherish one fish. Also change the tank frequently. It could be the water.

I'm not so sure, but...maybe your fish runs into the bubble making thing? One of my fish died because I had two fish, and the one that died ate pretty much all of the food before the other fish got to the surface of the water to get some food. Ate too much.

I THINK YOU SHOULD TAKE THE NEW FISH OUT....SOO IT WONT CATCH THE SICKNESS AS WELL..............also..........maybe if you go to your local petstore and tell them about your fish situation they could probably help..............

also you should clean the tank just in case thats the problem....it might make them feel a little better as well.........
