In a 2 gallon, your choices are fairly limited really. I would suggest 1-2 pygmy cory catfish or maybe 2 zebra danios, but that's about the limit.

Actually, you can put any type of (non-aggressive) fish with your betta. However, the smaller the tail/fins the better, but doesn't mean you have to stick with that. The reason I say this is because the one thing a betta looks for are the fancy big fanned out tails, that's what he's fighting against if there are 2 males together. Be sure when you get your new fish you leave them in the container you bring them home it and set it in the water of the tank. Your betta will come up to visit the container and see what's in it. After about 5 mins or so, release your new fish. Stay with them for awhile to see how things go. Also, you don't really want to put a gold fish in with your fresh water tropicals. The reason is, gold fish give off more ammonia in their waste than other fish, this could cause a great imbalance in your tank.

Betta Safe fish include Rasboras, Danios, Black Neon
Tetras, Guppies(not too fancy), Corys, sometimes Ghost Shrimp and other fresh water shrimp. Also a nice Nerite snail for algae control. All the fish should be kept in groups of 3-5 or more depending on the size of your tank. As always watch your betta, some are agressive to other fish, most are not agressive at all to other fish.
You will need at least 5g tank for most of these fish.

Your goldfish died because goldfish need 10 gallons per individual goldfish.
In a 2 gallon tank, you're really at your limit with one betta. If you wanted to upgrade to a 10 gallon tank, though, you could house 6 neon tetras and one betta in a very nice, peaceful but active display.
Make sure you read up on the nitrogen cycle (google "cycle a fishtank" or similar) and water changes! =)
Good luck!

Very few and only in a very big tank. Mostly the larger fish that can't be killed by the betta. The person in the pet store fish department can help alot with picking the right kind.

dissimilar young ones sense the ought to characteristic issues to a betta tank believing the fish to be lonely. does not fairly artwork that way with bettas. Otto cats tend to be disregarded yet a 5 gallon is purely too small.Nerite or MTS snails could artwork. some shrimps are nicely worth a attempt if there's a sprint conceal in the tank.

I've kept many kinds of fish with bettas before. I've always heard not to put anything in with it that nips fins (zebras are bad to do that). Also, don't put in anything with a long fancy tail or fins. I read that male bettas view fish with those kinds of tails and fins as competition and will attack.
I kept some neons and mollies in with one for a long time, and they were great, but then I had another one once that didn't do well with anything else. Part of it depends on the personality of your fish, I think. =)

2 gallons is too small for ONE betta. Don't put any more fish in, you'll end up killing them all. Do your research and find out how to care for fish properly. And buy a bigger tank.

Put another Betta in with him, they will get along just great. Actually due to the size of your aquarium I don't recommend placing more fish in there. The rule of thumb is 1" in length per gallon.
If you really insist on getting another fish I would recomend an arrowana or an oscar.

you cannot have any fish with big fins simmilar to the betta
if you must put a bett and other fish together it is best to let the other fish claim thier territories in the tank before adding a betta, they are very territorial
