The thing that keeps to my convictions is that if I just go with what everyone else wants I will never get the chance to show who I really am. I want to be me and live my own life, not the life of someone else who only thinks they know what they want. It is when you are yourself that you know who your real friends and enemies are.
Personally I have found that when something or someone is pure or true than it holds up longer than something that is only a look-a-like or a fake. Great question.

MY:
Family
Friends
Daughter
Faith
EXPERIENCE:
I have had times in my life (lots of it) where I went along with the status quo and know how my life was then - while not always a complete "mess" I wasn't truly happy, didn't have truly close relationships with family, made poor romantic relationship choices, etc. Once I cleared my head a bit and started living more the way I was taught by my parents and in a way that I know is better for me, my outlook improved, my family relationships improved, I make better personal decisions, etc. etc. and so on. So my own personal experience has taught me that having some convictions and standards for myself and my life is better than just going along with the status quo.

I hold to my personal convictions because of my Faith, my family, and my friends. I now that alot of the status quo are alcoholics, drug-abusers, etc. A lot of the time, the majority is doing bad things. I know in my heart what is wrong and what is right. It's "Hip to be Square".
