Why must I sit here night after night reading “Do the Republicans feel badly that the Democratic Party is that of the well educated?” And “Why do the Right Wingers hate the poor?”

I am a Traditionalist Conservative Republican. I was born and raised poor. I was one of the very few in my family to graduate high school. I was the only one to go to ever go to college. For that honor I paid student loans for ten years. Why? Because I was too proud to take grants and handouts as I really didn’t “need them”. I wanted to be proud of my accomplishments! During college I worked two jobs. When I got out of college I worked two and many times three jobs… That’s right, sixteen hour days five days a week, eight hour days two days a week.

I have busted my butt all of my life. I did not spend my college years smoking dope, bad mouthing my country and being a civil disobedient. And for that I have reaped the fruits of my labor.

I have a great career, money in the bank, a great retirement investment plan, a large home with a pool in a beautiful sub-burb of a major city, four cars… and of course, a beautiful dog! (Hence my screen name).

How can anyone tell me that this is not the American dream? The same dream that all could achieve if they were willing to embrace what the Founding Fathers penned into the constitution. A dream of not entitlement, but a dream of working hard, loving America and letting it love you back! The same dream that people are literally dieing for while trying to get into America!

As a current college student who also came from poverty, I commend your success, truly. And you are the American dream. But unfortunately there ARE disparities between the socioeconomic classes that hinder progress. Some people like you (and like my mother who I am so proud of that I brag on her all of the time) succeed despite their circumstances. This happens, undoubtedly, but it's the exception not the rule. I can't say it enough, education is the great equalizer. But the public education system does not give the same opportunities to poor and rural children. Schools in poor and rural districts receive less funding and teachers are paid lower salaries which equal less qualified. I could go on and on about the disparities, like the fact that poor schools have less technology available to the children, poor children are less likely to have learning disabilities addressed in the schools ... But my point is, how can you expect children who get substandard education to be able to go out in the adult world and succeed? It is no wonder that academic achievement is so low and dropout rates are so high. If we don't value their education, why should they?
Conservatives complain about crime, drugs, and welfare, but those are just the symptoms of the bigger problem, education.
Of the ones who are able to rise above their circumstances and actually graduate and go to college, why condemn them for getting Pell grants to do so? I praise them for using every opportunity available to them to succeed. I would rather a person get a government grant for a college degree, and go out into the professional workforce and contribute to society, than to work a low wage job and continue the cycle of poverty. I don’t understand why people compare their own circumstances to others. “I did it, why can’t everyone else?” Is that the Republican motto or something? There, but for the grace of God, go I, because although I have the resolve to succeed, I know everyone was not blessed with my intellect or drive. Of those who are blessed with it, sometimes it is stifled by circumstances. But who are we to judge?
But here’s one thing we can agree on, I love dogs too. And although you’re a conservative Republican and I’m a liberal Democrat, I think you’re pretty nice. Thanks for the email :)

When will you get it....stop generalizing liberals as criminal potheads...you have a good work ethic... but a lot of people cannot balance 2 jobs and college... it is a very difficult time in life... what is wrong with helping a student out until they can pay back their debt.. on top of that money debt it also the debt payed back to society because they went to college...do you know how much college costs TODAY.... it would take 3 jobs to cover the amount it costs... sorry I just do not see a problem with helping a student out who will pay the money back and who will pay their debt to society by being educated.

so, how did the rest of your family and friends do in life? since few graduated high school? are they all just lazy slobs?

oh, and it's good that you finally get to "live" life, since you've pretty much only been a slave to the system for many years...

you no doubt have health problems as a result of working sixteen hour days... the average human body simply can not take that kind of punishment for years...

if what you say is true, I would bet you may, if you're lucky make it past 50... most that do that, that I know, don't...

and no doubt those 16 hour days killed any relationship that you ever had... no wonder you like dogs... they don't have a choice...

it sounds like you've put "making money" above "living" for your whole life... sorry, but I don't envy you, I pitty you...

I got it. Educated - which I paid for. Career - retired. The cool thing is with great investments and a great job, I have retired before 45. Own 2 homes, (1 beach house), a small farm, 3 vehicles, a Harley, boats, etc. Everything I have is paid for. I still make more off of my investments every year than a lot of career people do. I am a Democrat but, my parents taught me about hard work and the value of a dollar.

You have worked hard for what you have.

I am a Democrat because my feeling is that Republicans judge themselves and others by how financially successful they are. A very superficial existence.

I believe that most of the best things in life do not carry a price tag.

Bravo!
Honestly, I know how hard it was for you because I've done the same thing and have never used the government or received handouts although, they would have been easy to get.

Be fully prepared to get lambasted for being an honorable person, not using the system and becoming successful. Too many people here will see you as being a braggart and will be unable to see your point. I see it very well.

easily! what's very frightening is that it does not commence in college - the completed government practise is skewed left - and has been for no less than 20 years that i in my opinion be conscious of of. while my son first delivered abode his U.S. historic previous e book some years in the past - there have been 2 PAGES on worldwide conflict II. approximately 20 on Viet Nam. approximately 40 - an entire financial disaster - on the Civil Rights stream. i'm no longer asserting those final 2 shouldn't study to our toddlers, yet WTF?? 2 PAGES on WWII?? For some unusual reason i think of WWII plenty greater significant than the Civil Rights stream if in basic terms because of the fact had we lost that conflict - people who complained, and proceed to whinge, maximum bitterly, could have been exterminated very like the Jews of Europe (would God relax their souls...). good element MY son had his Grandfather and ME to set him promptly. via set him promptly I advise tell him the certainty. we've the likes of Churchill (Ward no longer Winston) and the murderous thug bill Ayers coaching our toddlers. We additionally, until presently, had Barry Sortero coaching U.S. Constitutional regulation!! And yet he nonetheless does not be conscious of jack regarding the form! What destiny do the infants he taught have, different than to denigrate their u . s . in accordance with BO's interpretation of what Washington, Jefferson, Franklin, et al meant? frightening!

Democrats try to offset genetic disparities between people with entitlements. Some people just aren't as smart as others. We are only created equal in our rights, not our abilities. Like Judge Judy says, "dumb is forever". They just don't understand that some people are born to be the mules of society, while others are born to be the drivers.

but you are a bit mistaken of you think it's possible for everyone to just work "hard" and achieve total success, if everyone were to become highly educated etc, there would be an over supply of people with this kind of experience, in a competitive market wages for this work would go down, there will always be people at the top and people at the bottom in a capitalist system(becuase of the competitive nature of capitalism), that is the way capitalism works

I hate to say this but you are wasting your time using reason, logic and facts in an argument with the liberal left. To them those things are irrelevant and all that are necessary are good intentions and feel good ideas.
