I live on a busy main road and work night shift so i sleep with earplugs everyday, until i've saved enough money for a double glazed window.
Anyway the wax must be getting pushed deeper into the ear, has anyone slept with plugs frequently for a long period of time and any harmful side effects?

I wear earplugs to bed every night because my boyfriend snores so loud. I use the foam ones that expand when you put them in. I change them once a week. I had problems with ear wax before I started wearing the earplugs. They are a magical tool if you sleep with a person who snores.....LOUDLY!

Hi ~~ I'm a very sensitive sleeper and my backyard is very noisy with cars in and out of the driveway....so, I've been wearing earplugs every night for over 5 years now.

I even wear them during the day if I'm home and the neighbors are noisy with lawn equipment all day.

I've never had any problems with ear wax.

Just buy several (10 or more pairs) earplugs & buy new ones at least once a month and throw the old ones away.

Get a whole bunch at Walmart (very cheap), and clean your ears everyday with Q-tips! :)

No problem using earplugs regularly. To keep ears clear of wax, clean weekly with hydrogen peroxide. Fill ear canal with peroxide, let stand a minute, and let drain out. Repeat once or twice on each side. Follow this up with a drop or two of rubbing alcohol in each ear to dry up any liquid remaining, so as not to allow fluid to remain behind the eardrum.

the side effect of earplugs is the wax impaction. every week, stand in the warm shower and let the water loosen the wax and rinse it out. don't put anything else in your ears and use a blowdryer on low setting to dry your ears.
