I refuse to allow my children to watch almost any content from Cartoon Network at all anymore, but my fiancee watches this Adult Swim crap.I used to like the Family Guy.But there are so many of these cartoons that make blasphemous remarks and situations that make fun of God.Am I being too judgemental or am I right? I would prefer to just have the entire channel banned, but my future husband likes some of the shows. What to do?

I agree Adult Swim can be too much for some peoples sensibilities. But that is why we we have this great gadget called a remote to change the channel to something you do think is morally acceptable. We live in a pluralistic society and part of what allows you the freedom to say you dislike the moral implications of Adult Swim are the same freedoms that allow others to watch them and disagree with you. If I were you I would be less offended for all of humanity and more concerned that you and your fiance come to some like mindedness about what is acceptable TV for you, him and your family. Hopefully, there is room to accommodate all. As for your reaction to Adult Swim...change the channel so you don't have to think about it. That is what I do, as I just don't get the appeal of it, but I do realize others may and have a right to view it should they like.

From licentiousness to Victorian morality is a short distance. Those chasing too much of sex at one go are going to get bored of it too soon and then turn to morality for a change.Old Cultures have witnessed this cycle of events.Too much presription on how others should think or behave will soon lead to rebellion and constant thinking about what is banned. The result is that a few will discover some of the good side of what was banned and now start evangelising on it .Soon enough a cult following is created and as soon as these groups reach critical mass size, they become bold enough to assert their right to their style, in public.Very soon the old banned lifestyle becomes the universally accepted or tolerated syle..Now comes the stage of the search for novelty. Fashion is when I do what others dont and make a statement that that is the great one. So, in the over-sexed western World, religion and morality are now becoming fashion and in the Eastern society individual freedom and freedom of choice are becoming the new religion. So far these waves were occuring at different timings. The Internet and Cable and Satellite TV are going to synchronise these changes globally. Unlike in the past , herd mentality is no more assertive, because the privacy of the personal Computer or individual TV sets allows one's choices to remain personal and not subject to scrutiny and approval by others.

Children are better advised to desist from the depraving shows rather than being locked out, for the reason stated above. What is banned becomes the fashion and the urge to seek and accept it becomes strong. Note that the peddlers of Psychotropic substances are the ones to make noise in the society condemning it and urging the enforcement of so called strict morals. Because that is the only way they can get the kids curious to try and get addicted to the stuff they are selling.Make the same stuff legally available and let them try it under medical supervision and family care. The vanity will go and the urge to repeat the use wrecklessly will go.

So parental maturity to guide their children along right lines and not the mechanical step of banning what others may be liking for their own reasons is the answer.

As for the kids, there's a reason it is called "Adult Swim" and is not on until after most of the little darlings bed times.

Personally I find most Adult Swim content to be completely inane. However, I do like Futurama and Family Guy.

As far as what to do, most TVs are equipped with two controls that could solve your problem. One of them changes the channel, the other one turns it off.

Im not going to lie to you I myself watch some of the adult swim shows but some of them i think go to far. So if your fiance is watching something you don't like find something else to do while those shows are on. As far as your children go if they are below the age of 17 i don't think they should be allowed to watch any adult swim program.

I agree. That's also why I never like Family Guy.
My TV allows for turning off certain channels. If your set isn't too old, look at the owner's manual. Your future Hus should care more about your children and their moral upbringing. It isn't like they are going to be living with you two forever.

He's a grown man let him watch it, but as far as your kids mostly all tv's allow you to set up parental barriers, look into using that. Adult Swim is cartoons for adults. Personal I cant sit through it but I tons that love it.

It's not the sort of adult programing I care for, so I don't watch it. Why your children watching it is a question at all is beyond me. My answer to you is to grow up and make decisions for you and your family based on your values. If this future husband doesn't share the same values, he's likely to be an ex-husband, if you get my drift.

You're being too judgemental. One bad apple don't spoil the whole bunch girl. Cartoon channel has lots of good fun entertainment. Block the bad ones.

I agree, I don't even bother having cable or satelite at my home. There is just too much "garbage"--spelled with an "sh" and ending with a "t" on TV these days. If this guy is to be your future husband, I would explain to him that you simply don't want your children to be around all that junk and that you would prefer to block all those channels in your home. Help him understand that all that junk does have a negative influence, and If he can't understand and persists--well there are other fish in the sea.
