What kind of turtle do I have?

and it's NOT a three-toed w/e..b/c it had more than 3.

i would say it is an ornate box turtle... they live on land... if you caught it outside then that is probabley what it is.. look up some info on an ornate box turtle.... that's what it looks like..

It definitely looks like a box turtle, my guess would be that it is a three -toed box turtle, one of the North American species. The do live on land but often near water, they are poor swimmers and are not aquatic. I keep both tortoises and a box turtle and their captive habitat is identical. Nature likes to surprise us with exceptions to the "rules".

I should have added that despite having the common name of "three- toed" it is not uncommon for them to actually have more then three toes on each of the back feet.

It is a Box Turtle! Probably, from the shape of the shell, one of the ornata subspecies. You did not indicate where it was from so identifying which subspecies is not possible. The three-toed and other eastern forms have a more oval shell shape.

You've got a tortoise not a turtle. Turtles live in water tortoises live on land. It looks like a hermans or a spur thighed tortoise.

That largely depends on the colour, shape of Shell and whether it aquatic.Where did you buy it from? surely they can tell you what it is
