REO Speed Wagon was a truck manufactured by the REO Motor Company. REO are the initials of the company's founder, Ranson Eli Olds, who also founded Oldsmobile. The keyboard player of the band learned about this vehicle in college in a class about the history of transportation and suggested it to his bandmates.
