"Coon" is short for raccoon. Unfortunately, "coon" is also one of the many insults that white people use against black people.

In Cape Town South Africa we have a Coon Carnival, people of any race decorate their bodies with body paint, dress up in fabulous costumes and drum sing and party through the streets a fabulous festival.
