since we dont do anything with our littlest toe, I think we'll lose them
some of us can evolve into herbivors(vegeterians etc)
I also think that due to the intense heat coming our way and the change of enviroment, well find a way to hibernate or sleep a couple of unbearable months out of the year
we could also develop a way to get back to marine form, highly probable, if conditions really do become extreme becuase of global warming

With no particular environmental pressure upon the human race, technology and medicines softening what pressures do exist and mass global transit making interbreeding more common (thus reducing the fringe populations and genetic variation and creating a homogeneity across populations), I believe evolution by natural selection will come to a standstill for humans, and we well force ourselves into extinction.
The only other option that seems feasible is an evolution by science -- transgenics and gene therapy allowing members of our species greater resistance to UV radiation, immunity to disease, tolerance for greater temperature extremes... and I see no real reason to completely dismiss the concept of a. H.G. Wells future in which humanity becomes unrecognizable as we are scientifically evolved to possess dreamlike adaptations.

Getting rid of religion is a laudable goal, but beyond the scope of evolution. Since there now is little pressure for evolutionary change in terms of needing different bodily structures to survive and reproduce, changes will be mostly invisible, consisting of developing resistance to some of the bugs that now prefer to have people for lunch. Of course, the bugs are evolving too, so the race will continue indefinitely.

Actually, just the opposite will happen. Man the animal will evolve to a spiritual being, so religion and higher thought will rule. All the so called know it alls and their god science will perish because science will no longer serve a useful purpose for survival. In fact, it is happening now as science starts to scratch it's head and realize how little it really knows, how many problems science and its sister technology have brought to mankind, and how the things those spiritually enlightened people have been saying for centuries actually have some validity.

eyebrows. they're gone. and then sleep will become less important. then we'll get webbed toes. also, not really evolution, but race will slowly cease to exist. (everyone will look like Vin Diesel and Jessica Alba)
On the religion thing...as little as I like to admit it, religion seemed to be psychologically built-in to most people. I don't see it ceasing to be any time soon : (

This is totally a guess, but maybe darker skin. As we deplete the ozone layer, more damaging UV rays are reaching our skin causing cellular mutations (ie. cancer). It would be advantageous if we adapted in a way to protect ourselves from the increasing UV rays such as darker skin, less moles, or more body hair. But it takes so long to adapt, and we can treat skin cancer fairly effectively, so its unlikely that we'll see any dramatic shift for hundreds of years - if ever.

I wish you were right, but I'm afraid not.
I suspect humanity will kill itself in wars based on religious superstition but with enough intelligence to invent ever more weapons of mass destruction.
The evidence I see at present is toward more religious superstition, not less.

That's a nice thought. You give mankind far more credit than I. I think people will get fatter and fatter so they can live off that fat in a world of diminishing resources and a disintegrating climate.

although it's unlikely to predict the outcome of the future, enironment stress and changes definitely plays a role in human evolution.
