I am supposed to start a new pack of birth control pills the Sunday after I start my period (which is usually around Tuesdays). I didn't realize until a week ago that I accidentally started a new pack on Friday instead of Sunday. I have never done that before and I have been taking them for 4 years now. Can that really mess me up?

Ok...first of all are you taking the 21 day pills or the 28 day pills? If you are on the 28 day pack then the last 7 pills are usually sugar pills or "placebo." If you are on the 21 day pack there simply aren't those last 7 pills so those are "no pill" days. If you started your period Tuesday-ish and were supposed to not start the next pack until Sunday but instead started on Friday - this is NOT a problem. The problem may be at the end of the month when you hit the "placebo" or "no pill" days again. This time your period may start sooner - instead of Tuesday - it may start on a Sunday or Monday. If you want to get back in check at the end of this pack - start your pills on a Sunday again - even if Sunday is DAY 1 of your period. If you start your period on a Monday - wait 6 days until the next Sunday. If you are worried about the possibility of pregnancy - the only gap may be at the end of this month when you are getting back onto the Sunday routine. If you are concerned - either avoid sexual activity or use a condom as you make the transition at the end of this month/pack. As for now - if you are taking your pills correctly than you are fine - you should have 99% protection against pregnancy because you are actually ahead of schedule on your pills.

Nah, you just started a few days earlier than you should have. Just take one pill every day around the same time each day.

And use those stickers that came with the pill packs so your start date is Friday. Talk to your doctor if you want to change your first pill of each pack to a Sunday to see what to do.

I have done that too. If you read the hand out you can start the pills on the day you start your period. That is how I keep up on mine. They probably give you day stickers and you put the day you started them as day one and it will help you keep track. It doesn't mess you up. Good Luck.

no it won't mess you up. i think the main reason they name the days of the week is to help remind you what day your on. just keep taking them and either when you have your peroid just start the new pack on a sunday if you want to

No.

Your period will just be a couple of days off this month. Once you start taking it your usual day next month, you will be back on track.
