Yea, they should prove they belong here, before we throw them all kinds of rights! Unless they are illegal, then they shouldn't be here at all!

I have a slightly different position on this issue.

I have no problem with immigrants who want to come here and make a better life for themselves. I think if done in a legal manner, it adds to who and what we are as a nation.

However, I also think that the burden of proof is on them. It is up to them to prove that they wish to be here to become productive members of the US society.

Therefore, I would add that immigrants have MOST of the same rights as American citizens, but I might want to make a few exceptions. For example, an immigrant may not collect any sort of welfare assistance for at least 10 years. If they are here to work, then this should not be an issue. If they are here for anchor babies and check collecting, then go to the very, very, very end of the line (all the way back to the other side of the border).

Legal immigrants have more duties because they must learn to speak English and assimilate to American ways, but that they earn the same basic rights as any other U.S. citizen.

LEGAL immigrants should follow the law and have all the protections the laws provide.
Their duty is to provide for themselves and their families, preferably with honest, productive work. They must not become instant welfare mooches.

Legal or illegal?

I disagree with the statement. The only "duties" anyone has are those they sought after, in the work place.

I think 'imigrants' should be spelt 'Immigrants'

Also, I think it should be 'we all have more duties than rights'

The only rights a immigrant has is those he should have as a legal citzen. If he isn't legal he shouldn't have any kind at all. None, zero, zilch.
