If acceptable means worthy of having, the answer would simply be does it satisfy a need to accept this and is it necessary to have. As to whether or not something is acceptable as worthy to have then turns on questions of personal taste, is it inherently right or wrong, would accepting this (stance, position, belief, opinion, etc) hurt or disturb others, am I accepting this to the expense of someone or something else, etc. If the opposite of any of these criteria, then it is unacceptable.

It is unacceptable to deliberately hurt others by words or deeds.
It is acceptable to accept a truly repentant person back into your life.

First I try to foresee what the immediate response of another would be if they seen me doing this action. Then I think what would the effect be if other people acted in the same manner (I am a big fan of Kant's Categorical Imperative).

I always think that things or people that make your world or experience bigger are good. Anyone or anything that asks you to limit yourself is bad.
Acceptable/unacceptable fall into the same category as good/bad for me.

Given that a person can understand that something may be acceptable for others but not for themselves at times, the absolute limits of what is acceptable are found by the survival instinct and by morality, which may not parallel what we currently consider "reason."

Hi!
I base my decisions on my upbringing and common sense. If it's going to cause any kind of strife to another person, then it's unacceptable. If it's going to bring joy to someone, then it's acceptable.

If it harms others in any way, it is unacceptable. If it adds to others' lives and experiences in any way, it's acceptable.

We don’t use reason to decide, we emotionally react and then create a reason to justify our emotional reaction (usually fear), so we can be right (acceptable). Or maybe that’s just me
