I have 3 guitars and they all have names--Kayleigh, Kyra and Natasha. I also have a bass, which doesn't have a name--I'm not really sure why.
As to why, I really couldn't say--it just seemed natural at the time.

Kind of. I call my Martin "Marty" and my Les Paul "Paul".... haha.. I was never very creative. I have always wanted to give them better names but can't think of anything.

My grandson named one of his Marvina after a girl he once knew. Reason? they are both dark and beautiful and make a great sound when you stroke them.
