is that marriage binding in the U.S.
Would you have to return to that country to divorce, or could you divorce in the U.S. (if it's a binding marriage)?

Marriage contracted by an American is binding in the US if the requirements for marriage are all present. However, divorce of the said marriage can only be allowed if authorized where it was contracted.
