In the United States?

There are no federal regulations in the U.S. banning or controlling pet bear ownership or exotic animal ownership in general. Twelve states ban private possession of exotic animals, seven states have a partial ban, and fifteen require a license or special permit.

Keep in mind, few people have the facilities or expertise to care for these dangerous wild animals, and most bears live out their lives alone, chained in backyards or kept in inadequate, cramped enclosures. The average pet owner cannot provide appropriate housing, secure containment, adequate nutrition, or proper medical care and cannot meet the complex social, emotional, and behavioral requirements of a bear.

Bears kept as pets suffer from painful declawing and dental extractions for the sole purpose of making them less dangerous pets.

I don't think that having a pet bear is a good idea.
First of all it takes a lot to take care of a animal of that kind and it would be better if a bear were in its natural habitat or in a zoo with proper trainers.
Having an animal like a bear is a lot of responsibility and unless you are properly trained or have a license in taking care of wild animals I suggest visit them at the zoo or watch the discovery channel.

Yes, but I'm sure you have to have an exotic/wild animals license to do so. There are plenty of people who have wild animals including bears as a pet. I don't think it would be advisable unless you have some specialty degree or study in wild animals though. Ohterwise I think your are liable to be eaten!

The laws vary by state and are changed regularly. Usually, it is not legal with out a wildlife license, but you do need to check.

No, Its perfectly fine. I have a grizzly bear that lives in my house, he weighs 1000LBS and I have a bedroom for him, it was hard work house training him because he wouldn't use his bear litter. Its very expensive to feed a pet bear live deers everyday. Its irratating because I can't have any boyfriends over cause the last one got eaten. I take him to the bear park every saturday were he can fight with other bears. I'm going to breed him this summer and sell the babies for $50k each.

I would think so... do you think it would be fair to the bear to be living in captivity when it could be out in the wild?
