I think he's an awesome player & more than likely will be considered for the Hall of Fame when he retires. i'm sure he's not worried about the streak. He will be fine as he showed today.

just to clear this up for you... If any person answers that Derek Jeter is overrated, then that person probably does not know anything about baseball and his answer probably has no knowledge or any sort of intelligence put into it. Derek Jeter had an off night, so does every player, he doesn't have to hit .380, or hit 40 homeruns to be great... He is one of the games 5 best shortstops of all-time and is put on the field to win games. In doing so, he also puts up phenomenal numbers.
about the hitting streak... I used to think that a hitting streak was not so hard to put together... wow, 1 hit each game, you could go 1-5 or 1-4... you can have a bad game and still keep it alive, right... well this spring on my own baseball team i found out just how hard it is to keep a hitting streak going... I played 22 games and hit successfully in 21 of those games... I hit .487 also which would be extremely high for major league standards... I finished the year on a 16 game hitting streak and 2 of those games were kept alive by successful drag bunts... I am not facing the pitching major leaguers are either obviously... The fact of the matter is that Joe Dimaggio's hitting streak will never be broken.... ever unless a guy comes in to the league who is absolutley a baseball god... and there is no one like that right now in the major leagues who can do so...
SO basically for anyone who says Jeter is overrated, you do not deserve the 2 points you got for answering this question because you wasted your time trying to tell people stupid un-logical things that don't make sense. Instead you should probably go watch a baseball game or read a book to actually gain some sort of intellegence level that is higher than that of a manitee

I'd like to see a Yankee break a Yankee's record like Joe D's. DJ is my fav player on the team and it's a shame that it won't be him. Now, Matsui should take up where DJ left off and get hit after hit.

I wasn't happy that he wasn't able to extend his hitting streak, but that is how it goes sometimes. He is the greatest shortstop in MLB history. He also has four rings and he is a future Hall of Famer.
