Our Bassett Hound likes our 2 cats. Although, we had the Bassett Hound first, and she was about 4 years old. We had the cats since they were kittens, so they have always known the dog. I would think about getting her a new kitten instead. Just to be on the safe side.

It really depends on the breed of the dog. A big indicator is if the breed has a prey drive. ( thinks anything smaller than it is something to eat or chase to death) it also depends on how old the dog and cat are...Ive had a cat and then gotten a dog...the cat took some time to get used to the dog but the dog was young so he didnt really have any opinions about cats.
Don't get your mom a dog without her permission. Besides most pounds will not let anyone adopt if it is going to be a gift. Pushing an animal on someone is one of the main reasons why there are so many homeless pets.

Its not necasarily WHAT type, but how old the dog is when its introduced with cats. Just about any dog can be put with cats when its a put, and it will never bother those cats. Some old dogs will take up to new kittens. Really depends on the temperment of an older dog.

It depends on the dog I have a bischon mixed with cokerpoo and have 2 cats and they get along great. I would get it well it is a puppy so as it grows up it will be used to the cats and the cats will be used to him/her. Make sure you'r Mom would want a dog.

Make sure she really wants a dog and then rescue one rather then buy one. The kind of dog that likes cats is one that has been raised with them.

how old are the cats? as long as the cats are kittens then it should be okay. dogs and cats only fight each other if they are not raised together

I do have homestead pets: 2 cats and one dogs. certain, they get alongside quite properly...until eventually the cats commence waking the dogs with slaps! Then, it truly is going to grow to be a velocity race around the homestead.

any dog, when you raise it from a puppy around the cat it won't see it as something to chase but a friend. see a training website with specific tips on how to train your puppy to be good with cats.
