Yes. There is a lot research on happiness in the field of psychology. One study that is really interesting is one where monks were placed into an MRI machine and brain scans were taken while they were meditating. The part of the brain associated with happiness lit up like a Christmas tree and the activity in that area of the monks' brains was off the chart! They believe that the monks actually changed their brain 'permanently' to be this way by meditating. It's called neuroplasticity. Do a search on it.

The racists and homophobes I grew up among were generally happy. They were certain they were right in their beliefs. They seemed to have no more or less hatred than anyone else. They didn't hate people of color or homosexuals. They just felt an obligation to do GOD'S WORK and f**k over people unlike themselves. They were all so proud of my grandfather who would kill any person of color when there were no witnesses. He also was said to castrate gays. He worked as a Maricopa County Sheriff Deputy so he had lots of opportunity. The stories were told in such good humor and accompanied by laughter, that it is difficult to imagine that hatred was part of the motive. They just seemed to be happy to share in God's great plan. They were all great bible thumpers and prayed over everything. Times were different then. We are fortunate that things have changed. The stuff they pulled would end them up in prison today. Times have changed for the better and seem to be continuing to improve.

Yes - everybody, without exception, deserves to be happy. It really depends on how you deal with situations in your life - good and bad. Mostly the bad experiences are the ones that make us stronger people, if we overcome them and come to terms with them. Only by dealing with our "demons" can we then begin to live a "happy" and fulfilling life. Happiness is just a state of mind. If you say "I want to be happy" - "I am happy" then you will be! Choose your friends carefully and try and be at peace with the world and your surroundings. If you are lucky enough to fall in love and can learn to love other people, then you can be happy always. Best of luck!

Yes and No. In my opinion you can't be happy 100% through out you life, there are always sad times unfortunately or times that could be better, but i am sure that there are happy times also. Basically, life can't always be happy when you see poverty, crime, death in the world even if it's not happening to you.

It depends on what you mean by a "happy life."
If you mean being happy all of the time, it is impossible. Happiness, like all emotions, passes. The good news is that so does sadness.

If there's good times, there's bound to be some bad. You just need a balance of the both. The bad moments in life are the ones that teach you to appreciate the good. If everything in life went your way, and you were always happy and dandy, you wouldnt really appreciate its value.... yin and yang... you need balance in life....

Yes, but if you live according to the unspoken rules of our society (buy, consume, and work 3 jobs so you can keep buying and consuming) you wont have a truly happy life.

From time to time it is possible. I don't think it is possible 100% of the time though. Life just has its ups and downs. The downs make the ups all the more sweeter.
